Topic: When Dreams Are Fulfilled! [Wednesday January 20, 2016]

Text: 2 Chronicles 5:1-10

Key Verse: "Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God" (2 Chronicles 5:1).

There is nothing as satisfying as seeing that we successfully accomplish the projects we set out to execute. However, more satisfying is the fact that we have been able to put a good succession plan in place to ensure the continuity of what we spent our lifetime to plan and pursue.

This is what truly defines success. Whether in a family setting, a business enterprise, a church ministry or a political setup, failure to put in place a good succession plan can rubbish all the good things one has spent his lifetime to labour on. Today's text shows the completion of the building of the temple and the placement of the ark of the Lord and other instruments in the temple. It was a mission accomplished and dream realized both for Solomon and his late father, King David.

It will be the joy of every parent or leader to see their successors follow up conclusively on their visions and dreams. To make for the continuity of good and viable dreams, there is need to have a good and well laid out succession plan. Properly document the plan and see that it is well communicated to the would-be successor. In addition, adequate provisions must be made for the continuity and accomplishment of the vision. David was able to do all these before passing on the baton to his son, Solomon.

We must take a cue from Solomon. He committed himself from the onset of his ascension to the throne to pursue and fulfill his father's dream. As the baton to fulfil God's mandate is passed on to us, the onus lies on us to see that we passionately drive the vision till it is accomplished. Posterity will judge us for what we did with the opportunity given to us by God.

Thought for the day: Better to be a dream-maker than a dream-killer.
